Psychic Shirley

1) Tell us a little bit about you and what you do!

I began my path 30 years ago as a comic doing a cable public access show. I noticed that the station featured psychic call-in shows and I decided to do it, calling myself ‘The Psychic Housewife’. I was known as the funny housewife with a unique gift. I would do “readings” for the call-ins. So many people would contact me after my shows, telling me how accurate I had been and asking for readings. I was always shocked when they told me my predictions came true because I thought I was making it up. What began as entertainment turned into a calling that has brought me to present day.

Today, I’m known as Psychic Shirley, a clairvoyant, clair-audient, medium, empath and clarity coach. My comedic edge and psychic gift combine to provide each of my clients an accurate, powerful and always lighthearted perspective. Often, it’s this humor that relaxes clients, giving me an energetic ‘in’ to seeing what is happening in their lives - if you’re not ready to laugh, I’m not the psychic for you!

I sometimes feel like a psychic chiropractor; I see what’s out of alignment and can lend advice for small adjustments so things can go differently, for energy to flow more productively, and it’s this type of work that makes me the type of psychic a person comes back to regularly over the course of their lives. The tiny adjustments we make together lead to a life consciously lived by the client.

During our session, I’ll have tons of tissues on hand, because we’ll both be crying as much as we laugh. Please know that your secrets are safe with me (I typically clear my mind of what we’ve discussed within 24 hours).

2) You use a lot of comedy in your work, has comedy always been apart of your life?

Yes!  I grew up in the Midwest and my parents were Holocaust Survivors who loved to laugh - it was definitely a laughter through tears kind of upbringing.  Both Mom and Dad loved to listen to Jewish comedians on vinyl, watched them on TV,  went to comedy shows - you’d be surprised how many New York comics worked the “Temple belt” across the country. So,  I learned early on that if I could make them laugh it would be a good day for me.  When I came to LA, it was to do stand-up and be a comedy writer!  Laughter is the highest vibration!

3) Do you find that Angels and Spirit Guides have humor?

In my experience, it’s the Spirit Guides and energies of loved ones who come through during sessions with a funny image for me to translate.  I can’t explain it, but I can always feel when the energy of someone’s loved one who has passed has a sense of humor and I tap energies of people who are still here and I can tell when they have a sense of humor, too!  It just FEELS lighter.  I think the Angels love my humor though and they come to me when THEY need a laugh - they do so much work for us and I don’t have a 2 drink minimum so they come hang out in the office and relax.  I count on the archangels to do the heavy lifting but they like to smile, too.

4) What’s the most difficult part of your job?

Hitting a stuck clot of energy in a client’s debris field and not being able to help them get through it.  Only therapy can do that and not everyone likes to hear my suggestion that they should talk to a therapist!  I like to knock every reading out of the ballpark and I can’t always do that because my readings are only as good as what I am allowed to resonate to in my clients’ energies.  Hence, therapy!

5) Who are some people who have inspired you or helped you on your path?

My analyst, Tracey Woodward, who passed away over 20 years ago and taught me to read the Major Arcana in the way I do.  Also, I have a few “mentors” who are my go to people when I feel overwhelmed.  They are in their 80s and wouldn’t want to be named!  I’m grateful the most for my clients who are my teachers as I learn something new for myself in every reading I do.   Oh, a shout out to my friend, Jeannine Brousseau, an iconic hair stylist in LA who encouraged me to start doing readings at her salon for the clients who were sitting with hair color processing and preferred me over an old People magazine.  She believed in me and my work was first noticed there with a little mention in LA Magazine that I am ever so grateful for!

6) What’s the funniest moment you’ve had with a client?

A wonderful woman came in for a reading and her dearly departed Grandma came in with a message.  As I was relaying what I was “hearing” a HUGE bumblebee flew in the open office door, flew around the room in a perfect circle while we were screaming and then flew right out.  Of course, it was no surprise that her Granny’s nickname was, yup, BUMBLE!  I had to stop the session for several minutes so we could roll around the floor laughing!

7) What are your favorite Tarot/Oracle decks and why?

I’m partial to the Visconti because it was the deck I learned on.  I also love the Mucha Tarot because it’s so feminine.  I was just given the Dali Tarot by Taschen and it is really speaking to me.  My decks are like my kids, though, hard to choose a favorite without thinking I’m hurting one of their feelings!  Decks do have feelings, you know!

8) What’s your advice for someone who it’s their first reading and they are a little scared or nervous?

I would tell them to do their research - not just online but by asking friends for referrals.  I so appreciate when someone comes to me for their first reading.  I’m very gentle with them and appreciate that they’ve chosen me.  I would also say that the fear or nervousness gets in the way of the reading sometimes, so they should keep in mind that any reading, after all, is a form of entertainment and we all have FREE CHOICE.  I think the future is written in #2 pencil and we should always carry a big spiritual Faber eraser with us.  Don’t be frightened, kids, it’s only me!

9) What’s your favorite part about living in California?
The sunshine, of course!  And the ocean!  And celeb spotting…And the fact that most people who live here, CHOOSE to live here and we can be whoever we want to be.

10) How can we find out more about you?

I’m going to be relocating to the Palm Springs area and I’m looking forward to seeing old and new clients in the energy of the desert.  THAT should be a wonderful change and it’s happening in the next few months.  I’ll continue to see clients in LA for one week out of the month for up to year or more if I miss LA too much!
